There, I said it.
Last weekend, we were in Utah for my grandpa's funeral. After the services, we decided to meet up with our family at the City Creek mall. There is a play area for toddlers in the food area, so that's where we took the kids to play while we were eating and visiting. This kids area is pretty huge and Ivy was loving it. In a particular moment, I was watching Ivy climb up the stairs to go down this little slide as a little boy was climbing up. I just sat watching to see what would happen, and he gets to the top and smacks her across the face. I think it shocked her because she just sat there and just stared at him. I stood up to go get her, and right when I stood up, he smacked her again and she started crying. I think she was crying mostly because her feelings were hurt and because she was in shock. I was TICKED, and I walked in the play area, picked her up and took her back to where all of us were eating. As I was talking to her, I was telling her "it's okay, that wasn't very nice of him to hit you..we don't hit..we be nice...are you okay...where's your owie..etc.." this lady comes up to me and taps me on the shoulder..and the conversation goes like this
Lady: "Excuse me, I didn't see what happened, but I saw you take your daughter out of the playground and I saw you give me the dirty eye as you left. I would appreciate next time for you to come talk to me if my son does something that offends your daughter."
Me: "I didn't even see you, I just saw what happened and wanted to get her out of the situation as soon as possible so she didn't start hitting either. He smacked her in the face and I think her feelings were hurt."
Lady: "Well, he's only two years old..and as a mom to another mom, I would really just like you to come and talk to me if you have a problem with my son. Also, I'm sorry if your daughter is hurt."
and then she walks away.
Am I obligated to talk to her if I choose to take my daughter away from a situation? No.
Did I even know who her son belonged to when I took her out of the area? No.
Was I super ticked? Yes.
People are crazy.
